DDoS to be taken seriously

SURFnet’s Technical Product Manager Roland van Rijswijk-Deij is convinced that distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks are a matter that should be taken very seriously. He gives us a glimpse how SURFnet works to tackle the issue including means such as offering services and help to their connected institutions under attack, and continuously exploring the best ways to deal with certain attacks. More importantly stimulating, initiating and facilitating academic research into DDoS attacks is a key, because whilst “we may be able to deal with the threats we have today we also have to be able to deal with the threats that are emerging on the internet, that are rapidly expanding in size and level of sophistication”.
