Large Scale Distributed Sensing Infrastructures for Earth Observation

DescriptionSensing the earth using existing telecommunications cables is a relatively new area for national research and education networks to be involved in.  Strides to understand the technologies have been made, with some Nordic NRENs leading the way.  But the question still remains, how can this scale?  To really derive scientific value and to push the boundaries of the technology that we have available to us, new approaches may need to be developed.  This presentation will explore the reasons why we need large scale distributed sensing infrastructures and pose a model for how to achieve this with the infrastructure that is available.
