BioKenneth Ruud  is a professor of chemistry at the University of Tromsø and director of the Center for Theoretical and Computational Chemistry at the University of Tromsø, a Centre of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway. He has a PhD in theoretical chemistry from the University of Oslo in 1998. After two years as a postdoc at the San Diego Supercomputer Centre/University of California, San Diego, Ruud was appointed professor at the University of Tromsø in 2002. Ruud was the first Nordic researcher being honored with the Dirac Medal for outstanding young computational chemists.  In 2004 he was one of the 26 scientists who received five-year scholarships as an Outstanding Young Scientist of the Research Council and received in 2011 also an ERC Starting Grant. Ruud is president of the Norwegian Chemical Society and Chairman of the Scientific Steering Committee of the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE).
