Job titleProcurement Advisor
BioMichel Wets (1967) is the Procurement Advisor at SURFnet in The Netherlands. He is responsible for consulting on and leading procurement projects, and accountable for timely delivery of the set objectives. To succeed requires working closely together with the technical teams of SURFnet.
Michel also leads the GN3plus SA7 T5 Mobile Data services project, which goal is to enable learning and researching anywhere, anytime with any device by lowering technical and financial barriers for (inter)national mobile connectivity. The international team consists of members from different NREN (National Research and Educational Networks) organizations, combining procurement, technical and marketing expertise.
The five countries are participating in this project, Czech Rep. Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden represent 3.2M students. The procurement is taking place in 2014 following the European Commission tendering principles. We expect students to be able to use these discounted services beginning of 2015.
Before SURFnet Michel worked for 15 years for the IT department of the Dutch Broadcasting organisation (nonprofit sector). Here he led teams of IT professionals procuring and implementing challenging infrastructure projects and also served as Account manager selling ICT services.
