Short update from yesterday´s joint engineering meeting

Segment routing - what is it, and how could we use it? This talk first describes the basic building blocks of Segment Routing. We then look at Traffic Engineering applications, including ones mediated by a central SDN controller, such as Path Diversity, Automated Traffic Management. Finally we discuss the topic of BGP Labelled Colored Unicast (BGP-LCU), which allows for differentiated traffic steering across multiple ASes.

Per Nihlén, CTO at SUNET will share some thoughts on future NREN challenges and opportunities. He will be supported by his Nordic colleagues in encouraging plenary discussions on how we attack them. This will be an interactive session with a lot of Q&A, pros & cons and time for everyone to raise their voice.

University of Iceland uses DB for its network environment. Hosts, networks, VLANs, racks etc.

The combination of 802.1X and BYOD is a huge security challenge. Setup is done by the end user, and it is too easy to make an insecure setup, that allows hackers to steal the login credentials. Typically these credentials can also be used the access emails and files. Aalborg University have made a system that mitigate this risk, by using separate credentials for 802.1X per device. A demo will be showed of the self-service portal.
