Re-architecting an NREN for Innovation

DescriptionThe basic offering of the new Internet2 nationwide backbone network is a sliceable, OpenFlow-enabled layer 2 Software-Defined Network; there will also be a standard routed IP service, and individual waves will be accessible for experimental or special production purposes. The new services bring new possibilities and challenges for campus networks, and Internet2 is collaborating with forward-looking institutions to take advantage of them. This talk will focus on the hardware/software design of the backbone and on recommended changes to campus networks. The talk will conclude with a look into some likely developments of the near future.
